Morguard is committed to supporting small businesses that enrich our local communities. Small Business Saturday, which falls the day after Black Friday, is a day dedicated to shopping at small, local stores and restaurants. This year, measures that prevent the spread of COVID-19 mean many small brick-and-mortar businesses have new guidelines to follow which may impact their business. This makes it more important than ever to shop small and local this holiday season.
Here’s how you can show your support this year from shopping to checkout and beyond.
Make a #ShopSmall Plan
Do your research! To accommodate social distancing and manage to reduced capacities some stores are offering by-appointment shopping , delivery, or contactless curbside pickup. Stay up-to-date on how to shop and dine at local businesses by checking Google, social media, and business websites for modifications to hours and operations. Just like making a list of who to shop for, plan ahead and make a list of where, how, and when to shop.
Stock Up On Essentials
Small business Saturday isn’t just about shopping for gifts, are you due for a fresh supply of socks, or a new set of bedsheets? Check local stores before filling your department store cart. Snagging deals at smaller businesses might not be as deep of a discount as bargain retailers, but spending locally on things you need anyway means those funds will directly benefit your local economy.
Think Outside the Box
The pandemic has led some businesses to pivot from their usual products and services as they work to offer things that support our new at-home lifestyle. The farm-to-table restaurant up the street may be selling local produce, pantry items, or ready to make meals; shop there for dinner. Take this opportunity to gift something different, like locally made candles, food items, or loungewear. Can’t find the perfect gift? Many small, local businesses sell everybody’s favorite… gift cards!
Tell All Your Friends
Did you find an amazing discount at a local store? Were you impressed with their online ordering system or customer service? Tell your friends about your experience, tag your great finds on social, and share your feedback with the business by leaving an online review. l While you’re at it, show some love for all of the local businesses you frequent by taking a moment to leave a review so others can discover them, too.
We’re All In This Together
Adapting to change is never easy. That’s why sticking together is essential for moving through the changes we’re all facing in 2020. Stay connected on social media, have virtual holiday celebrations, and finish the year strong with support for local businesses while staying vigilant about following guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
