Maybe it’s simply the time of year that reminds us to feel a little more grateful, and wanting to volunteer to help make a difference in someone else’s life. With the COVID-19 pandemic<\/a><\/a> keeping many people home for their wellbeing and some volunteer opportunities limited or altered, you may be wondering how you can make a difference this year. The great news is that there are plenty of ways to volunteer your time and talents from the comfort of your home. <\/b><\/p>\n

Write a Letter to a Senior<\/b><\/h2>\n

Due to the coronavirus, many older adults in nursing homes and assisted living facilities haven’t had visitors for an extended period of time. A simple letter or small care package can brighten their day. If you don’t know anyone to write to, call your local adult care facilities and see if anyone is looking for a pen pal or would enjoy some mail. Consider including postage in the letter you send so they can write you back!<\/b><\/p>\n

Color a Smile<\/b><\/h2>\n

Send a smile to overseas troops, senior citizens, and others who need it through Color a Smile<\/a><\/a>. This is a great way to get kids involved in volunteering, but anyone of any age can volunteer to color. <\/b><\/p>\n

Become a Crisis Text Line Counselor<\/b><\/h2>\n

For some individuals in a mental health crisis or emotional abuse, having someone to talk to may be all it takes to help them stay safe. The Crisis Text Line<\/a><\/a> offers free 24\/7 support for those in crisis, and offers services in the US, Canada, Ireland and the UK. Training to become a Crisis Counselor is a free 30-hour process, to be followed by 4 volunteer hours per week. <\/b><\/p>\n

Make Time for Storiitime<\/b><\/h2>\n

Storritime<\/a><\/a> connects children with seniors who will read them a story. Adults can sign up as a reader, and parents and care providers can sign their kids up to have a child read to. It’s a wonderful way to stay connected despite the physical distance, and it connects generations, too!<\/b><\/p>\n
