A big factor in calling a place “home” is your family. An important part of the Morguard family are the youth that make up our community. We care deeply about them and see their immeasurable value within the Morguard family and the world. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Big Brother Big Sister Canada program to build the BeYou campaign. This campaign recently partnered with St. Laurent Centre in Ottawa to display a new piece of art to promote BeYou, and we couldn’t be more excited about it!
Who is BeYou?
Every girl across North America is unique. They play a major role in shaping the future of the world. We know not every girl is told this truth, so we have made it our mission to empower girls between the ages of 9 and 16 with self-confidence, self-esteem, and pride in their diversity.
The statistics that young girls struggle with are alarming. Here are a few to give you a better understanding of why this matters:
Over 50% of girls say they wish they were someone else
9 out of 10 girls feel pressure from the media to be thin
14% of girls are willing to say they are self-confident
Girls are 3 times more likely to have a negative body image than boys
50% of girls in grade 6 are already on a diet
Girls’ self-esteem peaks at the age of 9
Ottawa At Home
High school students from five local schools were recently brought to St. Laurent Centre to aid Claudia Salguero in creating a vibrant mural, a uniquely designed 54’ x 15’ butterfly.
Ottawa At Home featured the details of its production in an article called Community Art. The recognition of this piece is exciting, especially knowing the many hands that worked to make this possible. We’re looking forward to the attention this will attract to our Big Brother Big Sister Canada campaign here at Morguard. We’ll be celebrating the launch of this campaign on September 17-23. Come by and participate in the workshops and activities we’ll be holding.
If you too hope to instil the pride of being a girl, join us! We want to expand the Morguard family through jobs and partnerships. If you want to join our team, check out our careers page or if you’re looking to join BeYou, contact us.
