Our entire Morguard extended family of staff, sponsors, and volunteers have literally “walked the walk” to actively demonstrate our commitment to giving back to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. These efforts continued to be a resounding success through the final stretch of Light The Night Walks for 2016 and have led to us raising a total of $50,000!
Exemplifying Community Interaction & Team Spirit
Our core values and company culture not only emphasize service to the residents at our communities, but also to our local communities and organizations like LLS. Our involvement in Light The Night Walks and our highly successful 1st Annual Morguard Charity Golf Tournament in Florida reflect the spirit of giving, which is a natural fit for this time of year. The fact that we have a variety of apartments that are close to the many Light The Night Walks across North America is an indication of the array of choices available when you consider a Morguard community a place to call home.
Recognizing Our Staff and Achieving Fundraising Milestones
It is our pleasure to highlight several of our teams in their efforts to meet or exceed goals for LLS Light The Night Walk donations. Team NOLA from our Morguard Management Company office in Kenner, Louisiana stepped up and walked the walk on November 3rd at nearby Lafreniere Park. Angelle Skaggs from Studio Mundi, a Morguard partner, walked with Morguard Vice President John Talano, his wife Corie, and their son, Adam. Team NOLA surpassed their fundraising goal of $5,000 by $5,150, for a total of $10,150! Team leader Opal Cambre raised more than $2,435, and Morguard National Team Captain Meghan Keough raised $5,835!
Our teams at the Dallas Walk on November 6th at Trinity Groves included staff and families from Verandah at Valley Ranch, Grand Venetian at Las Colinas, and Retreat at Spring Park. Let’s give a shout out to Aly Widdifield, Joey Gonzales, Idela Escorza and her daughter Mia, Shelby Gill, Cyndee Ross, and Rashada Hemingway. Our tightly-knit team included people walking in remembrance of family members and to support those still battling cancer. The Dallas team raised $3,000!
Walking on November 12th at Huizenga Plaza in Fort Lauderdale, Team Morguard’s CancerKillerz, from the Palm Aire Regional Office, came in 3rd place in the South Florida District, raising a whopping $26,123! This impressive total was raised at the walk and in conjunction with the charity golf fundraiser. We want to thank Gary Stern, Tina Mitzell, Kevin Paustian, John Walsh, Helen Shashkova, Dara Ragan, Silvina Bellot, Bill Horowitz, Valerie Winter, Victoria Angulo-Sanchez, Stephanie Dileo and their families for attending. We know they are very proud to have been a part of this touching experience.
Our Victorious Secret Team from Woodbine Apartments was made up of office and maintenance team members. They walked on November 18th at the Meyer Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida. Stacy Mohammed and her supportive team raised $2,550 in donations! Even residents participated in this wonderful event through their generous contributions and joining the two mile walk downtown, in what felt like a family affair. The night was filled with survivor stories that moved everyone. You can still help Stacy Mohammed’s team to battle cancer and write it off on your 2016 taxes!
Governors Gate in Pensacola, Florida, also participated in raising money by holding a food truck fundraising event. Over 105 tickets were sold and a total of $1400 was raised. Their Light The Night team, Beth’s Buddies, was created in honor of a long time vendor of the community who recently passed away from Leukemia. To honor Beth, residents who donated hung balloon cards from the community fireplace in support.
Our communities in Mobile Alabama also shared in the fundraising effort. Lafayette Square raised $671 through a raffle and a concessions stand in their leasing center. Bel Air raised $250 by offering a brown bag lunch special. Pine Bend & The Hamptons raised $600 by selling custom LLS bracelets for donations and held a successful bake sale. In addition, Lafayette Square and Bel Air participated in their local walk at Bienville Square on November 17th.
We are sincerely moved by the selfless and dynamic team members who have made the worthy cause to cure blood cancer a group effort, which is truly the greatest gift of all.
