We’re proud to say that we have participated in Earth Hour for the past eight consecutive years! Here at Morguard, it’s part of our company culture to encourage our staff to be eco-conscious and eco-friendly whenever possible, and we strive to be leaders in sustainability in all of our real estate efforts. We are constantly working towards innovation, and we have dedicated ourselves to creating a better future by setting new standards in being environmentally conscious.
Earth Hour at Morguard
At 8:30 PM on March 25, 2017, we celebrated Earth Hour, which is a tradition Morguard has taken part in since 2009. Our properties turned off all non-essential lighting and signage, while emergency lighting and security systems remained on as usual. In addition to our team, our residents and customers were invited to join in and participate at work or at home. We hope that the residents at our communities feel good in knowing that their home is part of a socially responsible community.
Recognition for Sustainability
Apart from our participation in Earth Hour, we were also recently recognized with three Leadership in Environmental Advancement Program (LEAP) Awards from Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). The LEAP Awards recognize and celebrate excellence in energy performance and environmental sustainability by property management teams at exemplary sites. Our corporate-wide sustainability program, Sustainable Morguard, helped us in obtaining this honor by being as eco-friendly as possible.
George Schott, President and Chief Operating Officer of Morguard, spoke about Sustainable Morguard sharing that, "It takes collaboration and commitment to realize value for all stakeholders in healthy, resource-efficient, high-quality buildings." Sustainability is one of our core values, and we feel honored to be recognized for our sustainability programs.
Every Hour is Earth Hour at Morguard!
At all of our Morguard communities, we strive to make them as eco-friendly as possible for our amazing residents. One property in particular, Alta at K Station, is the first LEED certified rental residence in Chicago, and it’s also the largest apartment community in the United States to have earned LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This property is a glowing example of our commitment to developing more eco-sustainable communities that use less energy, minimize waste and provide a superior living environment.
Know anyone interested in becoming a part of our green family? We are always seeking to add to our talented team at Morguard, so consider referring those seeking jobs in apartment management and property management. We are very proud of our eco-friendly initiatives, which only add to the allure of the many great locations and communities in the Morguard portfolio.
