We are very proud to announce the launch of our national social cause campaign, BeYou, which we have partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada to create. This important cause has the primary goal of helping girls increase their self-esteem, as well as to help them attain personal growth and greater self-worth. This new campaign will host several upcoming events that will occur at more than 20 shopping centers in our Morguard portfolio.

BeYou Provides Important Tools at a Crucial Time

Our BeYou campaign is designed to provide girls between the ages of 9 and 14 with better access to developmental tools that will empower them to achieve their goals and embrace their skills in this digital era.

The Hard Facts

  • 9 out of 10 girls say they feel pressure from the media to be thin

  • 50% of girls in grade 6 are on a diet

  • Almost half a million girls have posted YouTube videos of themselves asking "Am I pretty, or am I ugly?"

  • Girls' self-esteem peaks at age 9

  • Only 11% of girls at age 16 are physically active enough to benefit their health

Building Body Confidence

When girls hold themselves back because of the way they think they look, society truly misses out. "The facts are as shocking as they are heartbreaking", said Ed Lincz, Vice President of Retail Operations at Morguard.  "Because our shopping centers are community hubs for families, we saw an opportunity to play an integral role in creating positive, long-lasting benefits in the community with the BeYou program.”

Our Morguard properties will be the staging ground where local ambassadors, workshops and events are planned, catering specifically to young girls in each of those communities. In addition, several national initiatives will be backed by the Program Ambassador for #BeYou, television personality Erin Cebula. This will include the beyougirl.ca. website, photo booth pictures that the girls get to keep as a memento, a posting "Promise" wall in each participating Morguard center, and of course by social media sharing through the official hashtag #beyougirl.

A Gift for a Lifetime from Morguard

Our core values not only emphasize service to our residents, but also to the youth in our local communities, which is a natural fit for this time of year, when kids are excited about unwrapping that special gift. The gift of self-confidence and a positive self-image pays long-term dividends. What also pays dividends is having new talent join our growing team. There are new job opportunities every day, as we continually build our pool of dedicated staff. If you like our culture at Morguard, consider us for those seeking jobs in apartment management and property management. Work with a thriving and socially responsible company.

At Morguard, we believe no girl should be held back from achieving her full potential. Peer pressure and anxiety over appearance keeps girls from being their best selves, affecting their health, friendships, and even performance at school. The gift of building their self-image is a gift for a lifetime. Happy Holidays from all of us.
